PROSPERITY AND MATERIALISM (1) - PSALM 118:25, 3 JOHN 3

God planned that man should be in control. Some should be in control of nations, some in control of families and some in control of regions. Every one of us is created to be in control. There is nobody born of a woman that enjoys slavery. Man was born with an inbuilt desire for freedom. Most of the time, when people hear the word “prosperity” , they think of money and material things and that leads them to the most tragic condition any one can come into. A misunderstanding of the word “materialism”. Prosperity does not first have to do with material things. It has to do first with being in control and getting the work done.

There are lots of poor people today that have materials that they do not need and they keep buying on credit. Materialism is the attempt to meet a spiritual need with material things. It does not have to do with acquisition of materials or possessions. It has to do with the attempt to meet spiritual needs with material or physical things. So a woman or a man that is lonely and marries will be attempting to meet his desire and need for fellowship with his wife. And what happens in that kind of marriage? The man or woman becomes possessive and cannot free the other person to express themselves. Such a man or woman will always want to know where his /her partner is going per time and who he/she is talking to.  He is trying to meet a need inside with something physical. You cannot meet the need for God in your life with your earthly father, though many of us are trying to do that.  When something physical leaves our life, many of us cry. If an earthly father dies, one cries but the father is not existing in your life to meet the needs that God is to meet.

Adam was alone but he was not lonely. The need for fellowship in his life was completely and comprehensively satisfied by his fellowship with God. The bible says that it is not good for man to be alone. It did not say “for him to be lonely”. “Alone” and “lonely” do not mean the same thing. You can be in the midst of friends and still be lonely and there are some of us that we enjoy being alone to fellowship and to think. In fact, you cannot succeed if you do not know how to survive alone. The idea that you have to surround yourself with people before you succeed is a manifestation of a sickness that has not been diagnosed, a spiritual condition.

Prayer: Father, I take authority over every attack of materialism over my life. I receive divine satisfaction that is born out of the communion with the Holy Spirit in Jesus’ name. Amen.
