Psalm 133:1 says, “ Behold, how good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity.”What produces unity? Unity always comes out of differences while union comes out of similarities. What produces unity are vision, submission and agreement.

For a family to be united, there must be a family vision to which all must submit, that is everyone must bring his gifts, abilities, skills, etc. under this vision in order to propel it. If somebody says you should do something that you like to do, that’s agreement; but if somebody says you should do something that you don’t like to do but which is of God, and you agree to do it that is submission.

Submission is higher than agreement because submission has to do with the will of God and agreement has to do with the will of man. If two people want to travel and one says, “Can we go in my car?” Saying yes is an agreement because the other person was planning to travel already. But if you don’t want to travel and someone says the Holy Spirit said you should get dressed and travel with him now. If you say, “I’m so tired but I will dress up now and go with you”, that is submission.

Do you know that the battle to save the human race was won in the Garden of Gethsemane when Jesus submitted his will to the Father? He prayed to the Father three times, “If it be possible, let this cup pass me by” and on the three occasions added “not as I will but as thou wilt.” That was where the devil was defeated totally. The final victory you will gain over the devil is the victory of submitting your will to the will of God. That is why the cross is the place where the devil is totally defeated. The cross is that place in your life where the will of God crosses your own will. Make up your mind today to submit to God’s will for your life and your life will never remain the same again.

Prayer: Lord, I receive the grace to walk in total submission to your will, your demand and purpose for my life. Help me to say not as I will but your will be done in Jesus’ name. Amen.
