This morning we shall continue with our study on how to develop and maintain an effective prayer life. Based on the prayer that the Lord taught His disciples while he was here on the earth, the following are the other things He taught them to take note of if they will ever be effective in the place of prayer.

 3. Learn God's Way of doing it right: The third critical issue from that passage says, “Thy kingdom come”. What is the kingdom of God? The Kingdom is God's way of doing things and being right, that is, God’s way of praying and praying right. The Bible says, since the days of John the Baptist, the  kingdom  of  God  suffered  violence  and  forceful  men  are violently  taking  their  portions.  This means since the day of John the Baptist, the kingdom of God is being proclaimed and men are forcefully pressing into it, taking their share of what the kingdom is offering. What   you   are   learning   is   to understand God's way of doing it right so that you can get your share of the blessings of prayer and your own portion of the benefits of praying correctly and not just praying endlessly without result.

4. The Will of God: The fourth critical issue is, “thy will be done, as it is in heaven, so it is on the earth”. This tells us one thing which is one of the basic reasons we pray. We pray to enforce the will of God on the earth as it is in heaven. The will of God in heaven is clear. There is no challenge or contrary opinion to God's will in heaven, but it is different on the earth. The fall of Adam led to the subsequent transfer of the legal authority that God gave men on earth to the devil. So, man has to pray and also learn how to pray, in order to have the will of God done in his life. The devil especially does not want the will of God done on the earth, neither does he want any of God’s children to do it. If the will of God will be done in your life, in your day and your circumstances, you will have to press in to it.

5.A forgiving spirit: The only hindrance to an effective prayer life that Jesus Christ mentioned is the subject of unforgiveness.  If  God  does  not forgive  your  trespasses,  certainly,  your  prayers  can  not  be answered. Many people are weak in their prayer lives because they do not walk in forgiveness. When you are weak in prayers, you will be weak in God's power. The only hindrance to an effective prayer life from this passage (though there are many others) is not forgiving.  If you want to build and sustain an effective  prayer  life,  you  will  have  to  forgive  and  get  rid  of offences.  I have made it a principle in my life to always forgive people before they offend me.

PRAYER: Lord, I pray that you will help me to walk in love so that the enemy will not hinder my prayer through unforgiveness in Jesus’ name. Amen.
