It is the Holy Spirit that supplies the divine nutrients that enable our spirits to grow and produce fruits. The fruits of the spirit are the embodiment of the character of Christ. Jesus said, “I am the vine, ye are the branches…..” and we all know that it is the branches that grow the fruits not the tree itself.
These nine fruit of the spirit are the fruits of our own spirits. Just like the branches of a tree draw their nutrients or sap from the roots through the trunk of the tree, our sap is the life of the Holy Ghost flowing through us and connecting us to the head of the church, the Lord Jesus Christ and bringing into our own nature that same character that was found in Christ when He walked on the earth.
There are places we will get to in life that it is the fruit of the spirit that will give us victory, protect us and preserve our lot. Spiritual maturity is seen in your submission to the kingdom authority that God put over you and in the fruits of the spirit at work in you.
Don’t assume that the man that can heal the sick or has spectacular manifestations of the gifts of the spirit is the better Christian because Romans 11: 29 (The Amplified Bible) says, “For God's gifts and His call are irrevocable”. [He never withdraws them once they are given, and He does not change His mind about those to whom He gives His grace or to whom He sends His call.” This means that the best pointer to the spiritual state of a believer is the fruits of his spirit.
